The SSW program at Humber College was everything I expected it to be and more. I have learned that it is never too late to start over and make your dreams come true.
I always knew that having just a Bachelor’s in Psychology degree will not help me stand out from other fellow graduates.
As I navigated my way through the Psychosocial Rehabilitation Certificate program, I began to see a whole new way of working unfold. Recovery based, person centred; as a staff in the mental health field I do not need to know all the answers.
To me success means being able to achieve goals and targets that one sets for themselves with hard work, self confidence and consistent effort.
I started the Settlement Services program in May 2010 and completed in June 2012, in total 11 courses and with good results, around 85%. I enjoyed a lot all the program and learned a lot of skills.
As soon as I finished the Humber Behavioural Science program, I had an opportunity in Vancouver to work for one of their school district; as an Autism Support Worker. Within half a year I switched positions to working as a Behavioural Support Worker.
